The Corporation de développement économique de Sutton has shared its sustainable tourism project with the public known as Taking Care of Our Destination Together.
Taking Care of Our Destination Together is a trail co-creation project in Sutton that is meant to promote “soft mobility,” such as walking and cycling, while “showcasing everything that Sutton has to offer” in terms of its landscapes, culture, history, and more, said Project Manager Janna Hubacek.
Hubacek noted that the goal behind the initiative is to mobilize the community to develop a sustainable tourism project that will “benefit the locals as much as it would the visitors.” With access to nature and the preservation of the environment top of mind for project participants, creating a walking trail was “a natural choice,” she said.
The Corporation de développement économique de Sutton has been working on the project since the start of the year in collaboration with various stakeholders after receiving a $250,000 grant from the Fonds d’action québécois pour le développement durable (FAQDD).
