The Yamaska Valley Optimist Club is hosting the 23rd edition of the Walk to Fight All Cancers in support of the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation (BMP Foundation) to purchase up-to-date specialized medical equipment for the treatment of cancer patients at the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital (BMP Hospital).
Lucy Davis, one of the organizers behind this year’s event, told CIDI that the funds raised will go towards the purchase of endoscopy equipment for the BMP Hospital. She noted that this equipment will help reduce waiting-times for colonoscopies and gastroscopies, and therefore will play an important role in the prevention and treatment of certain cancers.
As a cancer survivor that received treatments in Montreal, Davis emphasized that it’s important for people to have access to quality medical care in their own community in order to avoid the challenges that come with long-distance travel for critical healthcare services, which is why the Yamaska Valley Optimist Club continues to show its support to the BMP Foundation.
The Walk to Fight All Cancers is taking place on Oct. 6 starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Brome Lake Community Centre.
