The Town of Sutton officially inaugurated its new basketball court at Goyette-Hill Park after completing construction on the project this summer to meet the need for a more diverse offering of sports infrastructures in Sutton, particularly for adolescents.

According to Recreation and Community Life Officer Charlotte Jacques, the new basketball ball court is a response to the consultations that the Town of Sutton held in 2022 as it updated its Family and Seniors Policy. Jacques explained that after consulting teenagers in Sutton about what infrastructures they wanted to see in Goyette-Hill Park, it became clear that having access to a basketball court needed to be made a top priority.

A collaboration between the Public Works and Fixed Assets Department and the Recreation, Community Life and Culture Department, the new court features a green surface that is specifically meant for outdoor basketball. Jacques noted that the basketball court is also surrounded by benches, chairs, and a swing to provide a comfortable space where adolescents can gather and relax.

CIDI interviewed Jacques and Sutton Mayor Robert Benoît to learn more about the project.
