The Town of Sutton has donated its artifact collection to the Sutton Museum of Communications and History (SMCH) as a part of the museum’s professionalization process to receive government accreditation.

Charles Constantin, president of SMCH, told CIDI that the Museum was historically a volunteer based organization, but the board of directors hired an experienced museologist last year – its first ever full-time employee – as the first step in professionalizing the organization.

Constantin noted that it is difficult for a museum to receive its accreditation in Quebec if it does not have a permanent collection to preserve, manage, and maintain, which is why the municipality’s donation is a “critical” next step for the growth and professionalization of SMCH.
