The Town of Sutton has adopted a new Non-Profit Organization (NPO) Recognition and Support Policy to provide a more transparent framework for NPOs looking to receive and maintain recognition under the municipality.

The Recognition and Support Policy provides Sutton NPOs with the opportunity to receive financial support and other services from the municipality to help with the development of its mission or a particular project for the benefit of Sutton residents, explained Élizabeth Deit, director of Recreation, Community Life and Culture.

Deit noted that the previous Policy adopted back in 2015 did not provide clear guidelines on how support is distributed to NPOs, or which forms of support each NPO is eligible for. She added that the policy also didn’t allow for regional organizations that carry out activities in Sutton to be recognized.

CIDI spoke with Deit and Sutton Mayor Robert Benoît for more details on the new policy.
