The Town of Brome Lake passed a notice of motion at the April council meeting to adopt a new bylaw for boat washing to help avoid the introduction of invasive species in Lake Brome and to preserve the quality of water.

According to Mayor Richard Burcombe, the proposed bylaw is applicable to motorized and non-motorized watercraft, such as kayaks. The regulations will be different for “residents or renters” (those who rent a space for their watercraft year-round) and “non-residents.”

Burcombe provided CIDI with more details around the proposed bylaw, which council hopes to officially adopt at the May town council meeting.
